The History of Denia Castle
Period of Islamic Influence
Originating in the 10th and 11th centuries, this fortress was initially a domain under Islamic rule. It showcased a prominent double fortification comprising both a citadel and a secure refuge known as the albacar.
Significant strengthening of the structure was evident during the late 12th century, as deduced from architectural findings. Noteworthy elements included the Mid Tower, with its distinguished double arches and ornamental frames, and the Town Gate, a main access point marked by pointed arches and a distinctive wedge.
Christian Reconquest Transition
